Provides intensive home based services to children and families. The children served within the Child FIRST program range in age from prenatal to six years old. Services provided include attachment-based therapy, parenting skills training, crisis support, extensive case management, and advocacy. Child FIRST operates from a team approach and consists of a Clinician and Family Support Specialist, both of whom participate in sessions and treatment meetings. Participates in implementation of treatment plan, modifying as appropriate during the course of service; Services provided are in collaboration with DCF, schools, pediatricians, and other community based providers. Team is responsible for reflective group supervision weekly and maintaining clinical documentation according to licensing, accreditation, Medicaid, and Child FIRST requirements. Purposes of services are to facilitate the attachment relationship between the child and caregiver, improve family functioning overall, and connect the child and family with the community and community service providers in a positive way. There is expected consultation and coordination care with medical and Psychiatric providers if appropriate. Must maintain productivity targets determined by the Scope of Service and remain current on all model training requirements.
Unlicensed clinicians are hired prior to obtaining their license to practice as mental health practitioners (i.e. psychology, social work, LMFT, LPC, LADC). Unlicensed clinicians will receive supervision by a licensed clinician, and may be offered training opportunities. When eligible, all unlicensed clinicians are expected to obtain licensure in order to be considered for ongoing employment at The Village.
- Provides direct services to children and their families which may include:
- Assessment and engagement
- Provide DSM IV Diagnosis in consultation with Supervisor and Medical Director or designated Psychiatrist
- Formulation and contracting for services or treatment plan
- Implementation of treatment plan, modifying it as appropriate during the course of treatment
- Discharge planning which may include linkages to community support services
- Case management services
- Clinical documentation required by agency and program policies, HIPAA regulations, and funding sources.
- Maintain productivity targets determined by service.
- Provision of service in the office, school, or other identified setting to meet the unique needs of families served.
- Participates in Peer Consultation and Quality Assurance Reviews
- Works as a team member with other clinical and administrative staff to respond to client and programmatic needs, including the implementation of agency policies, procedures, and initiatives.
- Partners with Supervisor to identify and develop plans for professional growth.
- With Supervisor’s approval, partners with other program or clinical staff to identify and develop approaches to address clients’ unmet needs or service gaps.
- Contributes to program functioning by assuming responsibility for special tasks or leadership in special projects as appropriate.
- Contributes to agency organizational life by participating in agency wide task forces, committees or problem solving teams as appropriate.
- Contributes to agency visibility and development of community linkages by representing the Village in community groups or committees.
- Acquiring and maintaining the needed skills in evidenced based models that the agency / program ascribe to.
- Transports clients in personal vehicle.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
- Clinical degree in social work, psychology, or other licensed-eligible counseling degree; Clinical license preferred.
- Bilingual/bicultural skills preferred.
- Cultural competency to serve a diverse population
- Strong diagnostic, assessment and treatment skills for individual, family and group therapy.
- Extensive experience working with culturally diverse urban populations, a wide age range, and a variety of clinical presentations.
- Knowledge of mental health, child welfare systems, and community resources.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to function autonomously in day to day responsibilities; yet, seek consultation appropriately when needed.
- Proficiency with word processing and general computer skills.
- Physically able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations. These responsibilities include but are not limited to, the ability to function safely in a therapeutic situation, including provision of services in client homes or host settings.
- Valid driver's license and ability to transport clients in personal vehicle

Child First helps reduce the impact toxic stress can have on a child’s development by strengthening parent child relationships and addressing families’ basic needs (shelter, food, medical care, employment, etc.). Stressful experiences in early childhood, including exposure to violence, abuse, neglect, unstable or unsafe housing, or parental mental health problems or substance abuse have significant negative effects on children’s brain development. Families who receive services through Child First – including intensive in-home, attachment-based parent-child psychotherapy, trauma treatment and comprehensive case management – are able to build their resiliency to cope with the stresses in their lives.
